Calendar-Meeting refreshed experience

Project Overview
‍Early 2022, we shipped a brand new experience for Calendar. This involved a revamp of the Learning catalog, calendar, items which have due dates associated with them and search experiences.
The goal of this particular project was to identify users pain points, verify accessibility and flexibility to display a number of items on a day, week or month basis.
My Role
Responsible for research, conceptualisation, design, user testing and delivery of key modules and feature areas.
Team
Sole Designer, 4 product managers and
15+ engineers.

How might we provide a better and unified experience
Partners today are heavily invested in building their business. Every action of each partner and motivation behind it is imperative for their business growth.
Helping partners with intuitive calendar is the need of the hour.
Initial Research & Analysis
I did extensive primary research and existing design testing.
  • Analyze existing data such as user feedback, analytics, and usability testing results, to identify pain points & areas for improvement.
  • Motivations, desires and frustrations of customers in the journey.
  • Conducted user research to understand the needs, preferences, and behaviours of the target audience.
  • Review competitor products and industry trends to gain insights and benchmark against best practices.
Existing UI Study
  • Read up on requirement, took up call with PM, attend customer calls to understand user needs, pain points and expectations.
  • Studied existing UI flows which provide me bird eye view of product. also analyze existing data and design flows, to identify pain points and areas for improvement.
Focus Areas
Based on research, my key focus areas are as follow:
1. A helpful, more intuitive way to search the items
Search in existing design was a rudimentary and disjointed experience. In our old search made users do all the work.
How might we make search faster, unified yet contextual so people can easily find what they're looking for.
  • Users get no help at any stage of search
    No aid to accelerate the process of search, users had to type entire queries and scan through a long, flat list of results.
  • Can search for only one type of entity at a time
    Accessing different types of results should be seamless.
  • No event and calendar search
    ‍    Our old experience didn't have support for event search. We needed to make search was truly unified so users can access all the types of results.
2. Ensure WCAG 2.1 compliance for level AA
Current design is not accessibility compliant
Designing with accessibility in mind ensures that everyone, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, can access and use a product or service.
  • Color Contrast
    No aid to accelerate the process of search, users had to type entire queries and scan through a long, flat list of results.
  • Provide Clear and Consistent Navigation
    Existing design not follows intuitive navigation structures with clear labels and consistent placement of navigation elements. Its not easy for users to understand and navigate through the interface without getting lost. The navigation menu is poorly organized or labeled, making it hard for users to find their way around the website
3. Scalable design
The website or app is not optimized for different screen sizes, resulting in content being cut off or difficult to view on smaller devices.
It involves creating design elements that are flexible, modular, and adaptable, allowing them to maintain consistency and usability across different devices and environments.
4. Highlight things which are expire within 2-3 days
We have functionality to show learnings, courses in the calendar but there is no hierarchy to highlight the things which are due soon.
Need a design which can prioratize the things.
5. Can we integrate Calendar & Meetings
In current functionality there are separate pages for meeting and calendar to track the things user have to switch between pages
